One-on-one with Anushka Sharma
Q. Hi Anushka, congrats on all your success. We’d like to start by asking you about your take on fitness. What does it mean to you?
A. Since I’m part of the celebrity industry, looking slim is important but for me fitness is more than just that. It is about being healthy and confident with yourself. This ultimately leads to peace of mind as well.
Q. Tell us about your fitness regimen? What do you do to stay so svelte?
A. For my fitness regime, I do weight training 4 days a week to tone my body. Yoga is a recent addition to my workout as it really rejuvenates my mind, and gives my skin that inner glow. Sufficient rest is also important for the body to recuperate and let the results show.
Q. Anushka, you have great skin. What do you do to take care of it and keep it looking fresh?
A. The best remedy for a glowing face is proper intake of water. I would suggest that in a day one should at least drink 2-3 litres of water. It cleanses the system from within and this reflects on your skin.
Another important thing especially for actors is to never forget to remove makeup before sleeping. The chemicals in the cosmetics ruin the skin eventually. Washing face regularly with clean water or rose water also leaves you with extremely vibrant skin.
Q. Now onto your hair! As an actress, your hair must be exposed to all sorts of products and heat. How do you maintain it and keep it looking so thick and shiny?
A. My shampoos and conditioners have always changed but one thing that never changes in my hair care routine is my coconut hair oil. I believe that only healthy hair will remain beautiful over time, and products like Parachute Advansed Coconut Oil provide the necessary nourishment to keep it healthy and shiny. It also protects it from external damage, which is important for my hair as it gets exposed to so many styling and grooming products. I generally get a nice champi (massage) with coconut oil before washing my hair, and keep it for at least an hour before shampooing. This really revives my hair’s bounce and shine, and turns my bad hair day into a happy hair day!
Q. How about food? Is there anything you avoid or anything you make sure you include in your diet?
A. The key to getting that glow on your skin is eating right. I make sure I have a fruit or two every day for my share of anti-oxidants, and drink 2-3 litres of water to flush out toxins. Apart from that, my biggest weakness is my mother’s cooking which I simply cannot avoid even though it is so indulgent.
Q. How do you deal with the stress that comes along with being part of the film industry?
A. I always have such a stressful schedule that I really appreciate the simple, relaxed things in life, like gossiping with my mom while she gives me a nice champi with coconut oil, or lunching with my girlfriends.
Q. Finally, any advice for our readers on fitness and beauty? Do share a secret you swear by!
A. I really cherish my mom’s tips for hair and skin. For skin, she has made me particular about cleansing and using packs made of natural ingredients like milk, honey, papaya and banana to get that long- lasting glow. For hair, her advice is to regularly oil my hair with coconut oil, and give it a hot- oil treatment to deeply nourish my hair. These have really helped me in maintaining my looks amidst my hectic work schedule.
