Stay full longer with these foods!

Eating healthy need not mean depriving yourself. You just have to learn to watch and balance what you eat. We know how it feels when your stomach grumbles at all inopportune times, especially when you are trying to lose or manage weight.

Let us assure you that eating healthy need not be an ordeal, it can be fun. Here are a few foods that make you feel full and cut calories at the same time:

Water

Drink two glasses of water just before your meal. It will make you feel full, and you will even be able to trim up to 60 calories during every meal.

Dairy products

Milk, cheese and yogurt are packed with calcium. Since, you are either trying to maintain/lose weight, opt for low-fat dairy products. Experts says that calcium helps break down fat cells and that if your body does not get enough calcium, it releases a hormone called calcitrol which leads to storage of fat.

Apples

Apples are high in water content and fibre. This is the reason you feel full soon after eating an apple. Here is an interesting fact – the skin of the apple contains a soluble fibre called pectin which is a natural appetite suppressant. So, an apple a day not just keeps the doctor away but also weight woes away!

Nuts

Almonds and walnuts are packed with fibre, protein, minerals and fat. It leaves you feeling satiated, fills you with energy and increases your metabolism, all without adding an inch to your waistline.

Carbs

Whole grains such as ragi, jowar and bajra are an excellent source of Vitamin B complex and fibre. These grains also contain carbohydrates and they release glucose when they are broken down during digestion. The glucose not just helps you maintain your blood sugar levels but also fights your craving for sugar.

Flavour your foods

Try and flavour your foods with vinegar and cinnamon whenever possible. According to a study by the researchers of the department of Agricultural and Food Sciences in Zurich, vinegar and cinnamon regulates your blood sugar levels after meals, leaving you feeling fuller for a long time.

In addition, green and orange vegetables such as cucumbers and carrots which contain nearly 90 percent water makes you feel full and cuts down calories to a large extent.
