Your guide to perfect skin this summer

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014

IMG_03_240X240Summer is a time to relax and have fun! However, with the sun and rising temperature your skin and hair has to pay high price. Summer also brings along a plethora of problems like rashes, acne back, tanning, skin infections and sunburn. Dr. Sangeeta Amladi, Head Medical Services, Kaya Skin Clinic recommends a few tips for a carefree and skin friendly summer.

Screen the sun: Small amounts of sun is beneficial for the skin and essential for production of vitamin D. However, prolonged exposure to solar UV radiation may have a hazardous impact on the skin. If you are going to be out in the sun for a long time you need to wear a sunscreen or sunblock.

Not all sunscreens are made alike – some provide a physical barrier (minerals) while others provide a chemical barrier that absorbs ultraviolet rays. Zero down on a sunscreen that best meets your requirements and contains sun protection factor (SPF). SPF 30 is best recommended for Indian skin types. Apply sun screen 20 to 30 minutes before stepping out and ensure you wear sunscreen every day, even when you stay indoors

Walnuts good for weight management

Tuesday, January 21st, 2014

food01_240x240_jan20Nuts have gotten a bad rap for being too high in fat, but the truth about them is that nuts, especially walnuts, are a powerhouse of nutrition.

Contrary to what people believe, walnuts are actually good for weight management since an ounce of walnut contains 2.5g of omega 3 fats, 4g of protein and 2g of fibre that help provide satiety, Diabetic Living India magazine reported.

Any successful weight management plan must include the satiety factor; so walnut is undoubtedly the right food to consider if you are into a weight management programme. Despite being ‘dense in calories, walnuts can be an important tool in helping you lose weight.

These nuts can also reduce the risk of breast cancer. Eating about 28 walnut halves a day provides antioxidants and phytosterols that may help reduce the risk of the disease.

Get healthy flawless skin this New Year!

Friday, January 10th, 2014

SkincareMaintain a basic skin care regime: It is said that beauty comes from within but it only comes when you take care of it. As part of your everyday skin care plan, a proper cleansing routine is very essential for the skin. Use a mild cleanser for your face, preferably a moisturizing cleanser every morning and night before going to sleep. After cleansing your face always apply a good moisturizer soon after.

Exfoliate regularly: As you grow older, adult skin takes longer to replenish itself. Dead skin cells on your face make you look dull and tired; lacking a glow. Exfoliating your skin with a mild scrub atleast twice a week helps to remove these dead cells, and speed up the skin replenishment process. It also offers benefits such as clearing your pores, improving the skin texture, clearing out acne and blackheads, better absorption for your beauty creams and serums, and adding to that natural glow on your face. Exfoliation can be drying to the skin, so don’t forget to lather on some moisturizer after exfoliation.
