Dear Madam,

This mail is with reference to hair fall and dandruff problem. In 2011 , second half of the year my temple area hair started receding also my hair density started decreasing on top of course i use to remove my dandruff using finger nails which may be the cause. So i went to a dermatologist to check it out.She gave me Mintop along with some salicylic acid shampoo. After consulting checking on website i stopped using Mintop since it is very dangerous itseems and should be used continuously. From that day onwards i started getting very severe dandruff.I used Baba ramdev oil and shampoo for a long time but my dandruff problem was never solved. My hair line started receding continuously ana now i have thin hair. Its not that my hair  has totally gone but yes it has decreased its density. For last 3-4 months i have started using Baba ramdev shampoo everyday along with Head and shoulders only when dandruff is too much. Also recently i am using kesh raksha oil everyday along with Deno anti dandruff oil.I do maintain a proper diet.I have no history of hairfall from mothers as well fathers side. Please suggest.

Why do some kids get more acne than others ?

Various factors play an important role in exaggerating acne. Some of them are- hereditary factors, hormonal imbalance, stress, smoking and rarely dietary factors. When the patient’s parents had pimples in their youth then there is a high chance that their kids also suffer from the same problem. Young girls with hormonal imbalance like Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) also get severe acne. Stress of studies and peer pressure of collegues can lead to more acne. Diet containing junk, oily food and milk- milk products can lead to increased acne.

Arpit Gupta

Dear Arpit, , it is important that you look up a doctor who will examine your hormones , just to make sure they are not playing up for this repeated resistant acne, check your scalp for dandruff, use a medicated shampoo every day for the next 15 days . During this do not forget to oil your hair with a light oil like coconut based hair oil all along the hair till the tips , do not massage your scalp though. First measure is to use a right face wash … Try something with neem or tea tree oil or salicylic acid. Wash 3 times a day . Use a benzoyl peroxide cream at night on top of a very light moisturizing milk . But visiting a doctors is a must . Take care

Gel manicures can cause nail problems

Monday, March 4th, 2013

Women are now opting for gel manicures as it offer long-lasting and durable results in a quick manner.

But dermatologists have warned that they can cause nail problems – such as nail thinning associated with brittleness, peeling and cracking – with frequent use and can camouflage nail disease if done repeatedly.

Gel nail polish is more durable than other nail polishes and can last two weeks or more without chipping, according to Chris Adigun, MD, FAAD, a board-certified dermatologist and assistant professor of dermatology at The Ronald O. Perelman Department of Dermatology at New York University School of Medicine in New York, N.Y.

Ultraviolet (UV) lamps are used to “cure” or seal the polish to the nail, but it is hard to remove, as nails must be soaked in acetone for at least 10-15 minutes in order to rid the nail of the polish.

How can the very small soft brownish eruptions on the skin be removed. i dont want laser treatments. How can you make skin look glossy as you age because i am 43 and want to look young for a few more years.
The soft brown lesions that you are referring to are probably something called “seborrheic keratoses”.You need to remove them with radiofrequency / electrocauterisation. As far as looking younger is concerned, you need to be seen to be told what can be done for you.

1. Hello doctor, I have very brittle hair. Even though I oil it daily, it gets brittle by end of day. I use conditioner once a week. Pl help
Jyotsna

A hot oil massage with coconut oil, once a week, improves the blood circulation in your scalp and preconditions your hair.
Also it’s important to oil your hair each time before you shampoo. Oil itself is a good conditioner for hair.
Use conditioner, wash off or leave in, every time you shampoo. It will reduce brittleness.
Go for a protein-rich diet. Include eggs, sprouts and soya in your diet for healthy hair.

Firstly look at your diet closely. Protein, calcium, iron are a few important nutrition that needs to be adequate. Also then oiling is your best bet. Give yourself 20 minutes deep conditioning massage with hot coconut based hair oil. Coconut oil is an all time favorite; I grew up on this as a hair care habit. Coconut oil is very light so it penetrates into ur hair shaft. Improves your hair health so it makes your hair withstand all the damage that pollution, wind, styling that u would put your hair thro.
