Omega-3 may have wider range of benefits

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

463193083_240x240_27jan13A new study has revealed that omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA may have an even wider range of biological impacts than previously thought, suggesting that they could be of significant value in the prevention of fatty liver disease.

The research by scientists at Oregon State University and several other institutions, was one of the first of its type to use “metabolomics,” an analysis of metabolites that reflect the many biological effects of omega-3 fatty acids on the liver.

It also explored the challenges this organ faces from the “Western diet” that increasingly is linked to liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and sometimes liver failure.

Supplements of DHA, used at levels that are sometimes prescribed to reduce blood triglycerides, appeared to have many unanticipated effects. There were observable changes in vitamin and carbohydrate metabolism, protein and amino acid function, as well as lipid metabolism.

SkincareMaintain a basic skin care regime: It is said that beauty comes from within but it only comes when you take care of it. As part of your everyday skin care plan, a proper cleansing routine is very essential for the skin. Use a mild cleanser for your face, preferably a moisturizing cleanser every morning and night before going to sleep. After cleansing your face always apply a good moisturizer soon after.

Exfoliate regularly: As you grow older, adult skin takes longer to replenish itself. Dead skin cells on your face make you look dull and tired; lacking a glow. Exfoliating your skin with a mild scrub atleast twice a week helps to remove these dead cells, and speed up the skin replenishment process. It also offers benefits such as clearing your pores, improving the skin texture, clearing out acne and blackheads, better absorption for your beauty creams and serums, and adding to that natural glow on your face. Exfoliation can be drying to the skin, so don’t forget to lather on some moisturizer after exfoliation.

Take care of your skin this winter

Friday, December 27th, 2013

Winter is quietly creeping in and with the pleasantries it will also give us some skin problems. People who have dry skin experience irritation, hardness and roughness of skin. Incidence of itchy skin due to dryness and contact allergies due to detergents and chemicals also increase in this season.

Cold temperatures result in poor circulation and widened capillaries and as a result the skin suffers. While the cold alone isn’t enough to signal a four-star beauty alarm, the drop in humidity compounded with around-the-clock heating are solid clues that it’s time to step up your Skin Care Regime.

Here are some skin care tips that will help you deal with the winter woes:

Importance of makeup hygiene

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

An important part of skin care is following makeup hygiene. So here’s all you need to know about makeup hygiene.

Does your makeup have a shelf life?

Makeup hygiene is the best way to keep unpleasant skin infections away. No amount of cleansing, toning and moisturising will help keeping your skin clear if you don’t practice makeup hygiene.

Tips for makeup hygiene

Don’t leave your makeup container open

Ensure you close your makeup containers tightly after using them. This way, dust and germs from the surroundings won’t get into your cosmetics and they will remain in a good condition for longer. Cosmetics do contain certain preservatives to inhibit growth of bacteria, but if you don’t store them correctly, germs are likely to make it their home.

Dear Madam,

This mail is with reference to hair fall and dandruff problem. In 2011 , second half of the year my temple area hair started receding also my hair density started decreasing on top of course i use to remove my dandruff using finger nails which may be the cause. So i went to a dermatologist to check it out.She gave me Mintop along with some salicylic acid shampoo. After consulting checking on website i stopped using Mintop since it is very dangerous itseems and should be used continuously. From that day onwards i started getting very severe dandruff.I used Baba ramdev oil and shampoo for a long time but my dandruff problem was never solved. My hair line started receding continuously ana now i have thin hair. Its not that my hair  has totally gone but yes it has decreased its density. For last 3-4 months i have started using Baba ramdev shampoo everyday along with Head and shoulders only when dandruff is too much. Also recently i am using kesh raksha oil everyday along with Deno anti dandruff oil.I do maintain a proper diet.I have no history of hairfall from mothers as well fathers side. Please suggest.
