What causes acidity?

Eat more carrots to keep your eyes healthy and a lot more

Have you ever seen a rabbit wearing glasses? No, right? It is  because carrots are vegetables packed with nature’s goodness. Apart from boosting your eyesight carrots have various nutrients which make it a must-have in your regular diet.

Health benefits of carrots:

  1. They work wonders on the skin: Carrots contain beta- carotene, a form of vitamin A called retinoic acid, potassium, calcium, zinc, vitamin B, vitamin E, iron and phosphorus. These vitamins and minerals have powerful anti-oxidant properties. Hence carrots are an effective natural remedy for dry skin, chapped lips and dry skin conditions like eczema. A fresh grated carrot makes for a superb beauty face mask.
  2. Help fight cancer: Carrots also have anti-cancer properties. They cut down cancer risk by preventing and helping in treating cancers of the lung, throat, stomach, intestine, breast, bladder and prostate.
  3. Immunity builder: Carrot juice is beneficial as the indigestible fibre is removed by juicing. Carrot juice combined with spinach juice and lime juice helps in curing constipation. Carrot soup is also used to treat diarrhoea. It has also been used in olden times to remove worms from the body as a vermicide.

Carrot can cure several ailments

Carrot can offer prevention against different ailments, say health experts.

The vegetable-cum-fruit contains rich vitamin and mineral contents, besides other valuable nutrients.

Considering the effectiveness of carrot, doctors and health experts have declared it ‘apple’ for the people having meagre resources, the News reported.

Dr. Mian Iftikhar, a Medical Specialist, said that carrot especially its juice, is better for stomach and gastrointestinal health, which also solves a variety of digestive problems.

He said carrot is useful in different cases like stomach disorder, peptic ulcers, gastritis, crohn’s disease (chronic inflammatory disease affecting the whole of the alimentary tract), diarrhoea, celiac disease (defective digestion found in children).

Carrot juice, combined with spinach and a little lemon juice, is very effective in the treatment of constipation, he added.

What’s peptic ulcer?
Food is digested by the stomach with the help of concentrated acid and digestive enzymes. This process may, however, damage the internal intestinal walls of the digestive system. The mucosa, which protects the intestinal walls, is at times removed allowing the acids to harm the stomach and intestinal walls leading to tiny ulcers. This usually occurs in the uppermost part of the small intestine or duodenum.
Under normal circumstances, only sufficient quantity of the acid-enzyme mixture is secreted so as to disintegrate and churn the ingested food. If this acid-enzyme mixture is secreted in excessive quantities, the chances of damage to the protective mucosal covering are high leading to wound-like erosions in the inner most layers of stomach and/or duodenum. Medically, the condition is referred to as peptic ulcer.
